BISHOP DOYLE'S PECTORAL CROSS > WAX CARVING DAY 11

HEATING TOOL OVER FLAME
HEATING TOOL OVER FLAME
August 11, 2008

I use a rather old fashioned way of modeling with hot wax. I use an alcohol lamp to heat my tool. Most of my peers find this hard to believe that I prefer this method over electric wax pens. I feel I have more control using this method. As the wax cools on the tool it does different things and I have better control with the varying temperature of the tool. It has taken years of experience to know just when it will do what but it is still not a sure fire process. I may add little beads of hot wax for the grapes over and over, scraping off failed attempts in between.
