CASTING IN GOLD
CASTING IN GOLD

explanation and photo from Greg's website:
"After the wax is completely removed in the kiln, molten metal is poured into the cavity where the wax was."

This explains why it is called the "lost wax" casting process. The model is completely burned out in the process, leaving a void to be filled with molten metal...or not...it is not a fail safe procedure. I prefer not to think much about this part of the process when spending so much time on the wax model. It is a venture in faith involving lots of trust when I turn loose of this step! Thanks to Greg's skill as a foundry man I have never totally lost a precious master model over the last 12 years or so that he has been doing my casting.
